Medicine & Allied

DCH Trust founded Dhaka Community Medical College (DCMC) in 2008, offering a five-year MBBS program accredited by the Bangladeshi government’s Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. It is recognized by Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council(BMDC) and affiliated with the University of Dhaka. The Dhaka Community Medical College campus is located at Moghbazar, Wireless Rail gate, in the heart of Dhaka.

The Department of Medicine is one of the most important clinical specialties departments. In 2009, it was established as part of Dhaka National Medical College. The department has changed and kept up with the changing circumstances and societal demands over the years. In addition to undergraduate training in general medicine, the department also performs cutting-edge specialist clinical work. The department has two faculties, four registrars and associate registrars, six medical officers, and thirty-two more employees. There are fifty-four fixed ward beds and around twenty cabin units in the department. Additionally, the department contains four subspecialties faculties by a cardiologist, gastrointestinal, oncologist, and nephrologist. In addition to traditional lecture halls, the department also has small classrooms equipped with projectors for small-group instruction.

The Department of Medicine aims to produce community-oriented, need-based physicians with specialized skills. Efforts are made to help students obtain up-to-date information and develop competent, committed, and accountable physicians who can lead the healthcare sector as leaders in addressing the community’s health concerns and acquire a solid foundation for future training and higher education. The department is committed to training MBBS students (undergraduate medical students). Lectures, clinics, grand rounds, student seminars, and journal clubs are all components of undergraduate instruction. In addition, the department is involved in various clinical research endeavors.

As an academic medical center, we are committed to our goal of education, patient care, and research. The Department of Medicine is one of the largest departments within DCMCH, with approximately six trained faculty of varying experience levels and subspecialties. Medicine is one of the busiest departments at DCMC, seeing an average of 400 outpatients and 70 inpatients daily. In addition, the department operates an intensive care unit with ten beds.Because internal medicine patients are frequently gravely ill or require extensive tests, internists perform most of their work in hospitals. In addition, the department provides care for common medical issues and medical emergencies. Since 2009, the department has trained about 500 trainees and 70 physicians, achieving professional success at national and international levels. In the DCMCH, post-graduate training counts toward the FCPS in Medicine test; therefore, after completing their internship, they can immediately begin fellowship training under the supervision of senior academics. Trainees can directly collaborate with gastroenterologists, cardiologists, and oncologists to enhance their educational experience.
