Dhaka Community Medical College Dental Unit is aimed to produce need based skilled and Community oriented doctors. Efforts will be given to help the students to gain an updated knowledge and to produce competent, committed and accountable doctors who will be able to lead the healthcare sector as leaders to fulfill the health problems of the community and to acquire strong background for future training and higher studies.

Admission Information

Dhaka Community Medical College Dental Unit offers 5 years BDS course approved by Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of Bangladesh. It is affiliated by University of Dhaka and recognized by Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council (BMDC).

Admission will be on the basis of merit with the terms & conditions as prescribed by the Government of Bangladesh. The required procedures for admission in the Private Dental Unit and selection of the candidates for admission are made on the basis of the results of the admission test conducted by the Director General of Health Services (DGHS).

For admission in BDS course, the students will apply in a prescribed form (to be collected from the Principal’s office or Dental Unit Head’s office). The completed form along with the following documents is to be submitted to the Dental Unit Head’s office on or before the date as declared in the advertisement by DGHS.

  1. Attested photocopies of SSC & HSC or equivalent examination marks sheets.
  2. Attested photocopies of SSC & HSC or equivalent examination certificate or testimonial.
  3. Four (4) copies of recent passport size attested photographs.
  4. Nationality certificate from Chairman of the Union Parishad or Ward Commissioner of Metropolitan City or National ID card.
  5. In case of the reserved seats for the children of Freedom Fighters, a Freedom Fighter certificate from the Secretary & Honorable Minister or State Minister of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs or an attested photocopy of Freedom Fighter certificate counter signed by the Honorable Prime Minister during the period of 1997-2001 in favor of the parents participating in Liberation War).
  1. There will be in-course (card/ item/ term) and end-course(professional assessment for the students in each phase(1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th phase) of the course.
  2. Formative assessment will be done through results of items, card & term ending examination, class attendance and other performance.
  3. For formative assessment, 10% marks from written marks of each subject is allocated.
  4. For MCQ of each subject, 20% marks from written marks is allocated.
  5. For SAQ of each subject, 70% marks from written marks is allocated.
  6. Oral part of the examination will be structured.
  7. OSRE will be used for assessing skills.
  1. 75% attendance in Lecture & Tutorial classes separately.
  2. Completion of card & practical note books.
  3. 60% marks in average in three term examinations.
  4. 60% marks in average in three item examinations.

It is a great pleasure for me to welcome the students of the 10th batch BDS course in Dhaka Community Medical College Dental Unit. It is our desire that the basic health care facilities are to be taken to the door steps of the suffering millions. This can only be achieved by establishing a state of the art team of doctors and supporting professionals. We are making our highest effort to keep abreast with the current developments and advancements in the sphere of dental science and include those to make tailor of the course to suit the requirement of time. I am pleased and proud of having a good number of experienced and qualified teachers to ensure an excellent academic atmosphere in the unit, which is an indispensable precondition to teach the dental students. Hope the students will play a major role in creating a dignified dental college and achieve a high profile academic status. I hope the new students will devote themselves fully to pursue their study assignments and will be an excellent doctors. As desired by the Government, the health care services that has been provided by the Dhaka Community Hospital through their sincere and commitment to the community, that efforts will be strengthen further by developing a need based community oriented service along with developing skilled community oriented dentists. For this purpose, Dhaka Community Hospital Trust has undertaken a project to construct multistore college and hospital buildings along with infrastructure facilities. I express my enormous gratitude to the Honorable Minister to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MH&FW), for his invaluable support in establishing this unit. I extend my heartiest thanks and gratitude to the Secretary of the MH&FW. I also offer my thanks to Vice Chancellor of the University of Dhaka, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Dhaka, Director General of Health Services, Joint Secretary (Coordination) MH&FW , the University of Dhaka and others who helped us a lot for the approval of the Dental Unit from the session:2013-2014. I expect the incoming students will abide by the college rules and uphold the excellence of Dhaka Community Medical College Dental Unit.

The members of the Dhaka Community Hospital Trust strongly believe developing a model of an integrated quality and affortable Healthcare for common people of Bangladesh. Accordingly the Trust developed a multidisciplinary Hospital to deliver Health Care. Along with the Hospital, a Medical College with Dental Unit, a Nursing College & an Institute of Community Health are added. The idea is to develop skilled health manpower to support Health Services. Objective of the dental unit in this college is to produce dental graduates who will be sensitive to the socio-economic realities of the community and at the same time they will be able to deliver affordable quality oral health care. I sincerely hope that the BDS students coming out of this college after years of hard work, will absorb all the knowledge and skill appropriate for a modern dental graduate and will preserve all human qualities. The BDS graduates of this institution will be able to inspire their respective health teams and also will be able to lead them with dedication. On behalf of the trust and the governing body, I congratulate all the students who are going to join this institution and I hope that they will try their utmost to maintain a high standard of knowledge and skill. The unit will come across many hurdles, but I am confident that together we shall overcome all the challenges and be able to establish this institution as one of the best in this region.
